Happy April!

Happy April!

Monday was April Fool’s Day, but, there’s no foolin’ around here!  This weekend, I got busy with some mixed media FUN!  I have NO idea what happened, but all of a sudden I found myself 3 weeks behind on the Mix-Ability challenges on SCS.  How does that even happen?! Maybe the same way March decided to vaporize.  In any event, I had some GORGEOUS nature inspiration outside my craft room window, so I HAD to create something, so here goes…

Heron

That was outside my stamp room window.  Now you see why?!  I believe this is a sandbill crane, but in any event, it sure was cool!

I decided to make a cover for the art journal I’m putting all of my Mix-Ability challenges into.  I’m using the Multi Medium Spiral Book by Canson (and LOVING it!).  I took the book apart (saw that on YouTube – hello, genius and DUH all at the same time!), so then my cover was flat.  I tried to mix White Gesso with Chocolate Gelato, but that didn’t give me what I wanted, so I colored directly on the cover and that tinted the Gesso better.

AlbumCoverGesso

I forgot to take a picture of it before I started coloring it, but you can see the little texture and all I made with the Gesso on this pic.  I set this aside and began on some more FUN!  I printed a To Go Cup on Sticky Back Canvas.  Oh yes, that’s right – printed right on the sticky back canvas!!!!  I used a laser printer, and there was absolutely no smearing at all.

I sprayed it with Pearlized Water and then colored this fun cup with several colors of Gelatos (yeah, I know…) and Big Brush Pitt Pens. And then I sprayed some more!  I smudged a bit with the fingers, and got this…

While those two were drying, I played with Tiffany’s Mix-Ability challenge to use splatter, which is Mix7.  I tried the techniques Tiffany showed in the video on the challenge.  They were SO easy, but so fun!

Mix7BG

I played first on small pieces of paper, but then put them all together on the background of my art journal page.  I liked some of my “practice pieces”, so I attached them with some washi tape.  I was having an absolute blast playing with the Tropical Gelatos… oh how I LOVE those colors!!!  I think I may have a Gelatos addiction, tho… oh well, I think I’ll live!

Mix7Complete

In addition to the Tropical Gelatos (*swoon!*), I used Kraft Glimmer Mist, White Gesso, and a FUN Bo Bunny stamp called Stained Textures.  What FUN playing!

And now back to the cover…  Wait, not yet!

GandyFunny

I added more Gelatos to the cover.  When I put them on the Gesso, they were kind-of rough, like this:

But, just a little smudge-y with the finger, and it looks like this:

Here’s the whole cover done:

After I was able to separate myself from the Gelatos, I sprayed the whole cover with Pearlized Water and tipped it up to let the wet Gelatos RUN… go, Gelatos, GO!!!! And it looked like this:

AlbumCoverDrying

I always dry on a paper towel because, well, I have no idea…  I didn’t want the chocolate to take over the bottom, so I didn’t let it… Stay, chocolate, stay!

AlbumCoverDone2

I kept the cover simple because I may want to add more later.  The title is written with a Pitt Pastel Pencil.  I outlined the To Go Cup with a White Big Brush pen.  Oh, and did I mention that the To Go Cup is FREEBIE???

Post a comment with your art journal creations here for us to see what you’ve done, too!

Fresh Friday

Welcome to another Friday!!!  Oh, how I love that we get one every week! Hopefully, your household is doing better in the wellness category than is mine.  These crazy changes in temperature have sure put us all in a world of hurt, poor little Latte included.  We all appear to be on the mend, and hopefully, that’s the last of that we’ll see for the winter!

In case you are suffering from illness, or just the winter blues, KiniArt has three new adorable images for you this week, so let’s check them out!

First up, we are striking with the big guns of adorableness with this Baby Koala:

If that little guy doesn’t give you pause to say “awe”, you may need to get your pulse checked!

Next up, is an image that represents my most hopeful time of the year – the beginning of baseball season! Baseball Bunny is ready to throw some strikes this year!  After my San Francisco Giants won the World Series last year, there’s no greater phrase than “pitchers & catchers report”.

And last, but certainly not least, we have an adorable Boston who needs your love:

Although, I think he may be up to something judging by the look on his sneaky little (adorable) face…

Which one is your favorite??? Although, I can’t wait for baseball season, I’m seriously torn this time.  Oh well, guess I’ll need to play with them all!

Here’s a few reminders about what’s been happening with the store blog…

Emkay posted an AMAZING tutorial on how to make a necklace with digi stamps. I will be getting me some polymer clay to try this out!  You can check that out HERE.  It’s SUPER SIMPLE, but holy WOW!!!!

I played some this past weekend, especially using my Gelatos, so if you’re looking for ideas to play with these fabulous creations, check out my Play Time post.

At the end of the mega Play Time post, I posted a little freebie for ya – Granite Paper Pack:

12 Days – Day 12 – December

12 Days – Day 12 – December

Merry Christmas!!!! Did Santa bring you everything you wanted this year??? Did you grab all those Christmas memories on your camera? Ready to scrap them??? For the December Kit, I wanted to focus on the calm the we sometimes have a hard time finding during this busy season, so I chose a muted non-traditional color palate.  Hopefully, it brings you some calm as the kids run around playing with their new things today!

12Days-Dec-Preview

It’s a little hard to see in the preview, but there is an etched glass block over the photos.  I added some photos from a day downtown Chicago with the fabulous LilyPink Designs.  They photos weren’t from December, but a gorgeous day like we had is definitely a gift!

When I put the photos in, I jacked up the vibrance, so the gorgeous colors of the day would show through.  If you wanted the look of viewing through the frosted glass, you don’t have to do that.

And the right-hand page:

Again, with photos of the same glorious day for you…
